To the editor:
After some study into the Leavenworth city-county airport proposal, I have come to the conclusion that we don't need it, we don't want it and we shouldn't have to pay for it.
The Airport Advisory Committee seems to be comprised of a few men who are interested in aviation and some of them have private planes. Is it that this is a case of big boys wanting someplace to play with their toys at taxpayers expense? Or is it that the boys want to boast to other boys that "our airport" is bigger than your airport." After all, they say "Leavenworth is the only city its size in Kansas that doesn't have one."
Are these reasons good enough to spend millions to build an airport? Are these reasons good enough to disturb the quiet community of Basehor? Should a few boys have so much control over something that affects the pocketbook of everyone in Leavenworth County?
