A 24-year-old Lawrence man was being held without bond in the Douglas County Jail this morning after Lawrence police arrested him Thursday in connection with a Jan. 3 robbery in Riverfront Park, located in North Lawrence on the Kansas River.
After getting a tip from a Lawrence resident, police detectives contacted the suspect and he was taken into custody at 12:55 p.m. Thursday, a police department spokesman said today.
According to Lawrence police reports, the suspect had approached the vehicle of the Lawrence man who was in the park at about 8:35 p.m. Jan. 3. The suspect then grabbed the man around the neck and demanded his money.
The robber reportedly made comments that led the victim to believe that the robber had a weapon. The Lawrence man gave the robber his wallet, which contained $50 cash, according to police reports.
The suspect was scheduled to make a first appearance at 4 p.m. today in Douglas County District Court.
