A story in Sunday's Journal-World incorrectly explained statistics on arson fires in Lawrence. Statistics showing that arsonists were responsible for 22 percent of fires in 1989, 43 percent in 1990 and 45 percent in 1991 were calculated only for fires investigated by the Lawrence Fire Department's Fire Investigation Bureau, which does not investigate all fires. When comparing arson fires to the total number of fires, arson fires accounted for 3.3 percent of fires in 1989, 7.7 perecent in 1990 and 5.5 percent in 1991.
