Perry Building plans for an addition at Perry Middle School got the OK from Perry-Lecompton School Board members Monday.
The 3,900-square-foot addition will provide four additional classrooms and a corridor on the west side of the building, said Clint Strong, of Gould Evans Associates, the Lawrence architectural firm hired to design the addition. A sound barrier also will be built between the addition and the band room, he said.
Strong said a bid opening would be Feb. 5, and the board could award a contract at its Feb. 10 meeting. Construction could get under way by March 1, with completion around Aug. 1, he said.
In an effort to curb costs, architects will ask for alternate bids on equipment, including chalkboards and tackboards, lockers, cabinetry, carpet for the corridor, separate heating and cooling systems in the classrooms, and partitions.
The project is expected to cost about $175,000.
In other business at the meeting, the board:
Agreed to purchase two diesel buses from D & D Bus Equipment for $65,950.
Decided to meet in executive session starting at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 10 and start the open meeting at 8 p.m.
