A Lawrence police officer and a firefighter are investigating a reported arson at a North Lawrence business after the owner found remnants of molotov cocktail firebombs in the building Wednesday morning.
Lawrence police reports say that between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday, three of the homemade bombs apparently were thrown through a window on the east side of Northside Antiques, 790 N. Second.
One, or perhaps two, of the bombs started a fire in a storage room, but it burned itself out overnight, reports indicated.
The business owner told authorities that the fire left black soot on the walls of the storage room and that a piece of furniture had been ruined.
According to police reports, one of the bombs, which was made from some flammable liquid placed inside a glass bottle, was still intact.
McSwain said samples of the liquid had been sent to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation lab in Topeka to determine what had been put in the bottles.
