Tonganoxie High can't seem to put the ball in the hole.

"We shot about 29 percent and they shot 50 percent," coach Ken Diskin said after his Chieftains absorbed a 66-46 loss to Kansas City Piper in boys high school basketball on Tuesday night at the Tongie gym.

"We outrebounded them, 35-21, but from field we were something like 20-for-63," Diskin said. "The last two games we haven't been able to hit anything. You get in a slump and it spreads and the kids start to press."

Tonganoxie dropped to 3-3.

Eudora experienced a different problem Tuesday in its 76-64 loss at Rossville. Outscored 26-13 in the first quarter, the Cardinals never could come back.

"We dug such a deep hole, it started to rain, and we couldn't get out of the mud," Eudora coach Terry Zerr said. "We just didn't execute very well. And Rossville did a pretty nice job of defending against us."

Jamy Hickman led the Cards, 4-4, with 23 points.

Elsewhere in area basketball:

Ashley Whitelightning scored a game-high 17 points and Brian Damme added 11 as Perry-Lecompton squeaked past DeSoto, 57-56, in a Kaw Valley League game at Perry. The Kaws evened their record to 4-4.

McLouth fell to Troy, 73-60, in McLouth, despite 20 points from Justin Schwinn and 14 from Scott Gaskell. The Bulldogs are 1-5.

James Turner dropped in 14, but it wasn't enough as Oskaloosa fell at home to Pleasant Ridge, 67-48. The Bears' record fell to 2-5.

Eudora will be back in action Thursday night when it entertains Wellsville. In Friday's area games, it's Baldwin at Louisburg, McLouth at Oskaloosa and Tonganoxie at Perry-Lecompton.
