Boston Former Kansas University guard Kevin Pritchard, activated from the injured list on Monday, was waived by the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.
The move came before the 6 p.m. deadline requiring teams to guarantee for the rest of the season non-guaranteed contracts such as Pritchard's.
``We've kind of hung on (to Pritchard) hoping'' they might be able to keep him, Boston chief executive officer Dave Gavitt said Tuesday. ``Now with Larry (Bird) out and Kevin (McHale) uncertain in the immediate future ... we do think we have to look for the big guy.''
To replace the injured Bird and McHale, Gavitt said he would look first at forwards waived by teams seeking to avoid guaranteeing contracts, then at Continental Basketball Assn. prospects.
