The planning committee for the St. Patrick's Day parade is looking for volunteers who would be interested in planning events for the March 17 celebration.
Chris Mulvenon of the Lawrence police department said an organizational meeting for the parade and other related events will be at 7 p.m. today at Johnny's Tavern, 401 N. Second.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. March 17 at the Flamingo Club, 501 N. Ninth, and will end in the parking lot of the Jet Lag Lounge, 610 Fla.
Along with the parade, organizers have planned the Shamrock Shuffle, a 5K run, which is set for 8 a.m. March 14. Information about entry, fees, etc. should be available about the middle of this month.
All proceeds collected through the St. Patrick's Day festivities will be turned over to a local charity, but Mulvenon said that charity had not been selected. Any local civic organizations who wish to be considered for the funds may write to the Lawrence St. Patrick's Day Parade, P.O. Box 303, Lawrence 66044.
