Eudora Eudora created the tempo it wanted against Rossville. The only problem was the Cardinals couldn't handle it.
Eudora committed 26 turnovers and the Cards were trampled 68-48 in boys high school basketball on Tuesday night.
"We're not finishing the plays," Eudora coach Terry Zerr said. "They know what they're doing. The kids are executing, they're just not finalizing the play."
The Cardinals dropped to 2-6, suffering their second lopsided defeat after a 52-34 rout by Silver Lake.
"WE'VE HAD two bad offensive performances in a row," Zerr said. "We've got to get that fixed. You can't score 30 to 40 points a game and expect to win."
Eudora's offensive woes were evident during the game-breaking 24-2 run covering the second and third quarters. The Cardinals went scoreless for the opening six minutes of the second half, resulting in a 45-19 deficit.
"We're really struggling offensively and we continue to find something that is going to click," Zerr said. "We get the shots, we're just not finishing."
Rossville guards Darren Reynolds and Matt Campbell combined for 22 first-half points to help build a 32-19 margin.
"One of the keys entering the game was our handling their guards," Zerr said. "They did a great job against us tonight. It's a good learning experience for our guards. When we play better people, it makes us better later."
ZERR HOPES the Cardinals will improve with time.
"A lot of our mistakes were because of our lack of experience and our youth," he said. "Part of it is we need to gain some confidence, which we'll gain down the road."
Eudora will travel to Wellsville on Thursday night.
In Tuesday's girls game, Rossville won, 51-35. Mickie Jenks led Eudora, 1-6, with nine points.
