Several arts, crafts and recreational activities are being offered in the coming months for adults ages 55 and older at the Douglas County Senior Center, South Park Recreation Center and the Lawrence Arts Center.

Students can enroll for classes at the Lawrence Senior Center, 745 Vt., or by calling the center at 842-0543. There is a fee for some courses.

The classes are:

Fit-For-Life, low-impact aerobics designed for older adults, taught by Wilma Elder; 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 14 to March 5, at the Senior Center.

Yoga exercise class, with emphasis on stretching, taught by Emma Estrada; 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Mondays, Jan. 13 to March 16, at the Senior Center.

Basics of 35mm photography, including picture-taking and darkroom processing, taught by Cheryl Roth; 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 15 to March 4, at the Lawrence Arts Center.

Creative mask making, how to make a functional or decorative mask, taught by Cheryl Roth; 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, Feb. 19 to March 11, in the Senior Center studio.

Making stained glass, learning basic foil techniques to create sun catchers and small projects, taught by Mick Braa; 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Fridays, Jan. 17 to March 6, in the Senior Center studio.

Landscape painting, taught by Mick Braa, for students who already have taken a drawing or painting class; 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays, Jan. 23 to March 12.

Strip-pieced jacket making, for the creation of a lined jacket from colored strips of fabric and blue-jean pockets, taught by Harriet Olsen; 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 30 to March 19, in the Senior Center studio.

Metalsmithing, for all ages, taught by Sidney Pener; This class will cover the vast range of techniques for designing metal works, including sawing, filing and soldering; now enrolling.

New classes also will be forming in February and March:

Clay figure sculpture, creating human figures and landscapes in clay, taught by Jim Patti; 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 4 to Feb. 25, in the Senior Center studio.

Quilting for beginners, Bridge II, advanced Bridge, Portrait Drawing and Painting, and Enameling are some of the classes scheduled to begin in March.
