Services for Mary Anderson Loomis, 89, Lawrence, will be at a later date in Meadville, Pa. Inurnment will be in Mantorville, Minn.
Mrs. Loomis died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1992, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 23, 1902, in Owatonna, Minn., the daughter of Valeria Ruth and Gunder Anderson.
She graduated in 1927 from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.
Mrs. Loomis taught at a high school in St. Cloud, Minn., worked in advertising for the John Wanamaker department store in New York and later worked as a reporter for the New York Herald-Telegram. Along with her husband, she also operated the Swan Inn in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
Mrs. Loomis lived in Meadville, Pa., from 1945 to May 1988, when she moved to Lawrence. In Meadville, she was active in the American Cancer Society and was a member of the Unitarian Church. After moving to Lawrence, she continued to be involved in the arts and in civic organizations.
She married Butler Ives Loomis on Jan. 24, 1941, in New York. He died in 1967.
She is survived by a son, Burdett Loomis, Lawrence; a brother, George Anderson, Owatonna, Minn.; and a grandson.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor's choice. Memorials may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
