— Kansas lost more than a basketball game in the Florida International Sun and Fun Classic here Friday night.

The 17th-ranked Jayhawks, 72-71 losers to Arizona State, were to play without freshman forward Angela Aycock in today's consolation game against Florida A&M.

Aycock suffered a concussion during the second half Friday. She was to visit a Florida dentist today to repair several teeth, which were knocked loose.

Aycock, who took an elbow to the jaw while guarding an ASU player, went down hard and hit her head on the floor. She was knocked unconscious and taken to the hospital for observation.

She scored four points in Friday's loss, KU's first after it opened the season with 10 wins.

Undefeated Arizona State, now 10-0, hit a three-point shot with two seconds left to pull out a one-point win.

KU'S STARTING guards, Kay Kay Hart and Stacy Truitt, each scored 18 points to pace KU.

Lisa Tate contributed 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Terrilyn Johnson had 11 boards and seven points.

Arizona State's Ryneldi Becenti and Crystal Cobb each scored three treys with Becenti making the final three to win the game. Shannon Gridley led the Sun Devils in scoring with 18 points. ASU shot 34.5 percent from the field and 41.2 from three-point range.

KU had held its opponents to 20 percent shooting from three-point land, but the Sun Devils connected on six treys in the second half.

The Jayhawks had a last-ditch chance to stay unbeaten. Hart caught a full-court pass from Danielle Shareef with two seconds remaining, but Hart's shot bounced off the rim as the buzzer sounded.

"I think it was a great ballgame between two very good teams," said KU coach Marian Washington said. "There was a lot of distraction, but I was proud that we didn't give up and had an attempt to pull it out with a last second shot."

The distraction came in the form of a 20-minute delay when Aycock left the game with 12:29 left.
