Douglas County's state legislators have scheduled two meetings to hear opinions from groups on matters coming before the Kansas Legislature this year.
The pre-session meetings will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to noon Jan. 11 in the conference room of the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services local office, 19th and Delaware.
Legislators planning to attend the meetings are Sens. Wint Winter Jr., R-Lawrence, and David Webb, R-Stilwell; and Reps. Betty Jo Charlton, D-Lawrence, Judy Macy, D-DeSoto, Sandy Praeger, R-Lawrence, and John Solbach, D-Lawrence.
Anyone who wants to participate should contact Praeger at 865-1013 or 841-3554 to set up short meetings.
The following groups already have scheduled meeting with legislators Thursday night: Sierra Club, Wakarusa Group; Lawrence Chamber of Commerce and Kansas-Lower Republican Basin Advisory Committee; Douglas County Child Development Assn.; Kansas University School of Social Welfare; ECKAN; DCCCA; Lawrence NOW; KU Classified Senate; American Association of University Professors; First Step House; Salvation Army; and Lawrence Housing Authority.
The following groups have been scheduled for Jan. 11: Lawrence Douglas-County Health Department; Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center; Visiting Nurses Assn.; Kansas State Nurses Assn.; Lawrence Memorial Hospital; Douglas County Medical Society; Kansans for the Improvement of Nursing Homes; Health Care Access; Independence Inc.; Cottonwood Inc; Douglas County Association for Retarded Citizens; National Federation for the Blind; American Association of Retired Persons and National Retired Teachers Assn.; Douglas County Senior Services; Silver Haired Legislature; Associated Students of Kansas and Women's Transitional Care Services.
