— Freshman Angela Aycock scored Kansas' first eight points and finished with 15 in a 73-54 women's basketball win over Army in the first round of the Florida International Sun and Fun Classic on Thursday.

In her second appearance this season, Lisa Tate contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds for undefeated and 17th-ranked KU.

The Jayhawks (10-0) were to face Arizona State this afternoon in the second round. The Sun Devils, 9-0, defeated Sacramento State, 83-75, on Thursday.

Army's only lead came four minutes into the game, just before Aycock scored her fourth straight bucket with 15:57 left in the first half.

It took Kansas until the 3:27 mark to gain a double-digit advantage, a lead that never dipped into single digits the final half.

Four KU players finished in double figures.

Tate, who missed the season's first eight games because of a stress fracture, scored 13 points on six-of-nine shooting. She added 11 rebounds.

Tanya Bonham and Stacy Truitt scored 10 points each. Senior Terrilyn Johnson had five steals and six rebounds.

"Defensively I wasn't very pleased, but I give Army a lot of credit," said KU coach Marian Washington. "They played very scrappy and feisty basketball. Our team is going to have to understand that every team will be playing their best to see how they fit in with some of the best in the country."

Army was led by Lisa Russell and Kim Kawamoto with 17 and 13 points, respectivley. Army's record fell to 4-4.
