Services for Rose Lee Beard, 75, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke AME Church with the Rev. Stanley Counts officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Beard died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1992, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 22, 1916, in Indianola, Miss. She worked as a cook at Kansas University for more than 30 years, most recently for the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
She was a member of several church and fraternal organizations. She was the past worthy matron of Siloam Chapter 10 of the Order of the Eastern Star and a past most ancient matron of Cholegreen Court No. 27, Heroines of Jericho.
She was a member of Oasis Court No. 44, Daughters of Isis and a member of the Golden Circle of Kansas City, Kan.
She was also a past daughter ruler of Laura Thurston Temple No. 1094 in Topeka and past assistant daughter ruler of the Golden Sheath Council, both of Topeka.
She was a past president of the Sunflower Post Granddaughter Ruler Circle and a past president of Kaw Valley Shrine Club No. 21.
She also served as a grand district deputy of the Daughters of Elk.
She was married to William Beard. He died in May 1985.
Survivors include a son, Hughey Watts, Lawrence; three daughters, Clarice Badger, Lawrence, and Marcia Dane and Beverly Smith, both of Topeka; a brother, Samuel Qualls, Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to a fund in Mrs. Beard's name, in care of the Bowser-Johnson Funeral Chapel, Topeka.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive at 6 p.m.
Representatives of various fraternal orders will perform ritualistic services after 7 p.m.
