To the editor:
On its seventh anniversary, the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen (LINK) board would like to thank all the religious organizations, businesses, industries, service organizations and individuals that have helped us to serve the hungry of our community.
Because of the generosity of many people, LINK has served over 96,000 plates of food since Feb. 14, 1985. Many local churches and fellowships serve meals on a regular basis and we thank them. We are especially grateful to First Christian Church and Pastor Ron Goodman for the generous donation of space for our endeavor.
Lawrence businesses have contributed food, copying, serving supplies, storage space, moving, appliance repair and financial help. Individuals, some not connected to religious organizations that serve at the kitchen, have contributed food, appliances and financial support. What was envisioned as an interdenominational endeavor seven years ago is more an intercommunity one.
This year, LINK became accessible to persons who could not negotiate stairs. Contributions allowed the installation of a lift at the door of the basement of First Christian Church.
Unfortunately, LINK reminded us of the hunger in our community. What we hoped was not needed seven years ago, a food kitchen, now feeds at least 90 guests and sometimes as many as 120 guests on each Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday and the last Friday of each month. We thank all of the Lawrence community for its generosity to our guests.
for the LINK board.
