Graveside services for Vernon Elsworth "Jim" Honn, 74, Lawrence, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery south of Lawrence with the Rev. Lester Flory officiating.

Mr. Honn died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1992, at the Valley View Care Center.

He was born Feb. 2, 1918, in Peculiar, Mo., to Joseph Ivan and Mary Catherine Walmer Honn. He graduated from Sabetha High School in 1938 and moved to the Lawrence area in the 1950s. He farmed for a number of years and opened the first Robo Car Wash.

Mr. Honn worked in the maintenance department at Kansas University for about 12 years before retiring in 1982.

He was affiliated with the Eight Mile Old German Baptist Church in Centropolis.

Survivors include two sons, James, of Georgia, and Timothy, Sweden; a daughter, Kay Honn, Parkville; a brother, Kenneth Honn, Kennewick, Wash.; three sisters, Clara Sharp, Mildred Deardeuff, and Mary Davis, all of Kansas City, Mo.; nine grandchildren and a great-granchild.

A daughter, Mary Sou Salvans, died in 1984.

Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Rumsey Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. or Alzheimers Caregiver Support Services. Memorials may be sent in care of the funeral home.
