Ja'Net Davis, one of Kansas' top women's basketball recruits, will not attend KU this year, head coach Marian Washington announced today. Davis has enrolled at Kilgore (Tex.) Junior College.

Davis, who attended Lynwood (Calif.) High School, was the fourth-rated high school center in the country last year according to Blue Star. The 6-4 center was a third-team All-America selection by Street and Smith's, but did not meet all the guidelines under Proposition 48. Davis could not have participated or received scholarship assistance from KU this year.

"I just think this is an example of the challenges Proposition 42 has posed for our young people today, especially those from low-income areas," Washington said. "Ja'Net wanted to be here and start out at the University of Kansas, but Kilgore Junior College was able to provide her with an opportuniuty without any financial obligations so it was in the best interests of Ja'Net and her family to attend Kilgore."
