Following a six-hour standoff, police early this morning arrested a 35-year-old Lawrence man suspected in the armed robbery of a North Lawrence grocery store Friday night.
Lawrence police Lt. Mike Hall said the man surrendered to police around 3 a.m. today, about six hours after officers had gone to the man's house following the robbery of Roger's IGA, 608 N. Second.
Hall said a masked gunman robbed the grocery store around 8:55 p.m. Friday. A witness told police the gunman fled to a residence in the 400 block of Perry.
Police then sealed off the area after the man refused to come out of the house. Police eventually began to negotiate with the man, who was arrested on robbery charges when he surrendered.
No bond has been set for man, whose arraignment has been scheduled for today.
Hall would not say how much money was taken in the robbery, however he said the money was in the house.
No one was injured in the incident.
