A Perry man Tuesday was sentenced to return to prison after a jury convicted him last month of involuntary manslaughter in the 1988 shooting death of a Topeka man.
Frank W. Zeilinger III was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in December 1988 in the death of Jeffrey J. Bara. The Kansas Court of Appeals later overturned the conviction, so a new trial took place in Jefferson County District Court in July. The second jury convicted him of the less serious charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Judge Gary Nafziger on Tuesday sentenced Zeilinger to three to 10 years in prison, the mandatory minimum sentence for a crime in which a firearm was used to kill someone.
Zeilinger already has served 3 years in prison.
