Civil cases filed

Former Kansas Union director Frank Burge has filed a suit in Douglas County District Court against the driver of a car who struck him Nov. 1 as Burge rode his bicycle on Iowa Street toward 15th Street. Burge filed his suit against Jeff Listerman, Lawrence, and Allstate Insurance Co., with whom Burge had a policy to cover accidents involving uninsured motor vehicles. On Nov. 1, Burge was riding his bicycle south on Iowa Street toward 15th Street when he was struck by Listerman's car. Burge suffered a broken thigh and ankle in the accident. He claims he has incurred permanent physical injury, medical bills and pain as a result of the accident. Burge asserts that Listerman was negligent in the accident. Burge is seeking more than $50,000 in damages from Listerman and more than $50,000 from Allstate, citing that the company has not paid a claim to him for his insurance coverage for uninsured motorists.
