Two Lawrence women were hospitalized this morning after a two-car accident in western Douglas County.

Lisa K. Clark, 23, and Bertha Sanders, 54, were injured about 7:15 a.m. when the cars they were driving collided on Douglas County Road 442, or Stull Road. The accident site is about 4 miles west of Lawrence.

Douglas County sheriff's Deputy Blake McCall said Clark was driving east on Stull Road when the right side of her car went off the road. Clark veered left to get back onto the road but lost control of the car and crossed into the other lane. Sanders, heading west, then struck Clark's car, McCall said.

Sanders was taken by LifeStar helicopter to Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka. Stormont-Vail could not give a condition report on Sanders this morning because she was still undergoing evaluation.

Clark was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where she underwent surgery for a fractured shoulder this morning.

McCall said Clark was ticketed for crossing the center line.
