A 19-year-old Lawrence man reported to Lawrence police that he was beaten, cut and robbed early today by three men near Kansas University.
The man said he was walking near 10th and Ohio about 2:15 a.m. today when four men in a pickup drove by him slowly and yelled at him. The victim, police said, gave an obscene gesture to the men.
A police report gave this account of the robbery: Three men got out of the pickup, and one of them knocked the victim to the ground. Two men then held down the victim while the other took his wallet.
The wallet contained $60 in cash plus miscellaneous items, police said.
One man took a box knife from the victim and slashed him with it, creating a 5-inch wound on the upper left part of his chest. The victim declined to go to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment but told officers he would go to a private doctor to have the wound examined.
No arrests have been made.
This morning's robbery was the second in two days. At 12:30 a.m. Monday, police reported, a 49-year-old Lawrence man was cut and robbed in an alley near 10th Street between New Hampshire and Massachusetts streets.
Three juvenile boys were detained after that robbery. Police Lt. Mark Brothers said this morning that there was no indication the robberies were linked.
