Services for Mary Elizabeth McCalla, 85, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Macauley officiating and assisted by the Rev. Grantland Clowers. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. McCalla died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1992, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 4, 1907, in Topeka, the daughter of James and Hannah Cowan McKenna.
She attended Ottawa public schools and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1925. She graduated from Ottawa University in 1929 and began teaching school in Chickasha, Okla. She then taught at Ottawa High School until she moved to Lawrence in 1939.
Mrs. McCalla worked for several businesses in Lawrence. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was active in its church guild. She also was a past member of the Lawrence Music Club.
She married Wesley Graham McCalla on June 11, 1939, in Chanute. He died in 1990.
Survivors include one son, James, Brunswick, Maine; two daughters, Susan McCalla, Mountain View, Calif., and Molly McCalla, Chapel Hill, N.C.; and one sister, Frances McKenna, Topeka.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society in care of Rumsey Funeral Home.
The family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
