Memorial services for Carroll Lester Showalter, 74, Lawrence, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Westside Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. The Rev. Robert Freitag will officiate. Private inurnment will be held later in Grover, Okla.
Mr. Showalter died Friday, April 24, 1992, at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. He was born Oct. 6, 1917, at Larned, the son of Harry R. Showalter and Olive Sue Hollinger.
He attended Hutchinson public schools and graduated from Hutchinson High School.
He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1944 to 1946 and attained the rank of staff sergeant. He then returned to Hutchinson, and he moved to Wichita in 1952. He then moved to Oklahoma in 1978. In 1990, he moved to Lawrence.
Mr. Showalter served as a line supervisor for Southwestern Bell for 31 years.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 2033 in Grove. He also was a member of the Pioneers of America, American Legion and the Westside Presbyterian Church of Lawrence.
He married Anne Boese on Dec. 26, 1937, in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, James and Bruce, both of Wichita; three daughters, Dee Anne Link, Jeri Elliott and Chris Jennings, all of Lawrence; a brother, Orville Showalter, St. Peter's, Mo.; two sisters, Ruby Mooris, Cheney, and Katherine Cain, Hutchinson; and six grandchildren.
The family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Westside Presbyterian Church.
The family suggests memorials to Westside Presbyterian Church in Lawrence or the Grace Presbyterian Church in Grove, in care of Rumsey Funeral Home.
