A 25-year-old Lawrence man was listed in fair condition this morning at Lawrence Memorial Hospital with stab wounds he suffered early Tuesday in east Lawrence.
Lawrence police reported the man was stabbed in the side and chest about 2:05 a.m. Tuesday at 19th and Harper.
Lawrence police said the victim and his 17-year-old brother were riding their bikes when they began arguing with two men and a woman standing on the corner of 19th and Harper.
The men and woman told officers that the victim cursed at them and yelled racial slurs, which led to a confrontation in the street. The victim told police that he and his brother were minding their own business when they were attacked, police reported.
The suspect told police that the victim implied he was carrying a weapon and placed a 21-year-old man in a headlock. The 21-year-old pulled a knife and stabbed the victim, officers said.
No arrests have been made, but police said they would send the report to the Douglas County district attorney's office to review whether any charges should be filed.
