Two Lawrence men linked to a Wednesday night liquor store robbery each were charged with a count of aggravated robbery, a felony, during their first appearance Thursday afternoon in Douglas County District Court.
Prosecutors allege that Isaac E. Smith, 19, 1724 W. 24th, and Lamont Ephraim, 20, Lawrence, robbed Else's Liquor Store, 315 E. Seventh.
Police said that shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, Ephraim and Smith walked into the liquor store and started talking with a store clerk the only other person in the business at the time. Police said Ephraim showed the clerk a gun, which he had tucked into the waistband of his pants, and ordered the clerk to hand over money in the cash register.
Police reported the men took $120 cash and a bottle of alcohol, and left the store. No one was injured.
Police conducted a canvass of the area and found Ephraim and Smith in a house in the 800 block of New York.
A gun that may have been used in the hold-up as well as a knife were found, but police would not elaborate on where they discovered the weapons.
The men remained in jail this morning in lieu of $15,000 bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
