Of nine Lawrence area school districts surveyed, Wellsville is the only one to experience a decrease in enrollment for the 1991-92 school year.
Friday's Journal-World reported the figures for six districts, and three others released their numbers today.
The number of students enrolled in Wellsville schools is 751, including 15 part-time preschool students. That figure represents a decrease of 29 students from last year's enrollment of 767 children in first through 12th grade and 13 pre-schoolers.
Tonganoxie's full-time equivalency increased by 65 students, from 1,360.5 last year to 1,425.5 this year. Kindergarteners and pres-schoolers attend half time, which accounts for the fraction. This year's total head count is 1,478 students. The breakdown is 825 at the elementary school, 366 at the junior high, and 287 at the high school.
Eudora schools reported 874 students, an increase of 26 from last year. Grades preschool through sixth grade reported 496 students, and the enrollment at Eudora Junior-Senior High School is 378.
Schools were required to report enrollment figures to the Kansas Department of Education on Friday. The numbers will be used to determine the amount of state aid to Kansas public schools.
