BAKER TOO MUCH FOR OTTAWA, 50-13

— It took defensive back Robert Villafranca to get Baker's football team in the end zone for the first time this year.

But once the offensive players saw it was all right to score, they thought they'd try it too.

By the time the final gun sounded, the 12th-ranked Wildcats scored seven touchdowns en route to a 50-13 drubbing of Ottawa.

Villafranca intercepted a pass 1:34 into the game and took it 74 yards to give the Wildcats an early 7-0 lead.

"His interception really took the pressure off our offense," Baker coach Dan Harris said. "That was a big factor in getting our offense rolling."

AND ONCE the offense started rolling, there was no stopping it.

Nine minutes later, the offense gained its first TD of the season. Once again Villafranca was instrumental in the score.

He intercepted the ball at midfield and brought it down to the Braves' 25-yard line.

Six plays later, Rob Conner plunged in from the one to extend the Cats' lead to 14-0.

"Rob Conner was able to use his speed on the outside tonight, and he just had a great game for us," said Harris.

Conner rushed for three touchdowns and finished with 111 yards on 18 carries.

Quarterback Aaron Todd said the big difference between last week's performance and this week's showing was the blocking on the offensive line.

"THE OFFENSIVE line took over and they gave me all the time in the world," said Todd, who completed four of eight passes for 52 yards. "I think we showed the potential of our offense tonight, as well as the power. Our backs just ran tough tonight."

Baker gained 323 yards on the ground and a total of 433.

Individually, sophomore Michael Hunt gained 58 yards on the ground on 10 carries. Junior transfer Jimi Dutra had 55 yards on 15 totes and Albert Lierz added 46 yards on eight carries.

Meanwhile, BU's defense held Ottawa to 22 yards on the ground, and 245 total yards, but the defense was penalized 19 times for 180 yards.

Baker will travel to Iowa Wesleyan next week in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
