Lawrence High ranks just above Shawnee Mission Northwest in points and just below the Cougars in total offense after two Sunflower League football games.
The Lions will see how they measure up on the field tonight when SM Northwest visits Haskell Stadium. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
SM Northwest, 2-0, opened with a 28-0 shellacking of SM East and last week tripped SM West, 14-7. The Cougars are averaging 284 yards a game, which ranks them third in league.
Lawrence, 1-1, has scored 45 points in two games. Most of those came in its season-opening 39-6 win over SM North. Last week, LHS fell to Olathe North, 14-6. The Lions are fourth in the league offensively, averaging 272 yards a game.
Not since 1983 have the Lions lost two games in a row. It happened midway through the season when they fell to SM Northwest and SM South by identical 21-14 scores and went on to finish 6-5.
Lawrence will have all-state running back Michael Cosey in the backfield tonight. Cosey, who missed last week's game with a broken bone in his left hand, is expected to start.
