The Douglas County Commission on Wednesday is expected to give its OK to a consulting firm for the Horizon 2020 planning process.
Last week, a Horizon 2020 committee picked Trkla, Pettigrew, Allen & Payne, a planning consultant firm from Chicago, from three finalists in the selection process.
The Horizon 2020 project will define the city's policies for land use and development through the next 25 years, said Price Banks, director of the Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Commission.
The firm chosen for the project will work with various service clubs, neighborhood associations, and community interest groups to get their input into the planning process.
The Lawrence City Commission will consider the firm at its meeting next Tuesday.
The county's meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the county courthouse, 11th and Massachusetts streets.
