The Lawrence Fire Department has filled a new position of management analyst.
Kathy Saunders, 32, will be responsible for personnel records, records for the hazardous materials system, budget preparation and control, planning and research, and other duties.
She began the new job April 15.
The position filled by Sauders is part of two additional administrative positions and nine additional firefighter positions that were provided for as part of a local sales tax increase approved by local voters in August.
Currently, the fire department has only one secretary, and no administrative assistant, Fire Chief Jim McSwain said.
Saunders, originally from Junction City, graduated from Kansas State University in 1982 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration and a bachelor of arts degree in literature.
She graduated from the Indiana University law school in 1987.
For 3 years, Saunders has worked for the Bloomington, Ind., city council as its attorney and administrator.
Saunders moved back to Kansas with her husband, David Reidy, because he is beginning his doctoral studies in philosophy at Kansas University.
