Work on a telephone cable will partially block southbound traffic in the 2000 block of Massachusetts Street for the next few days, a spokesman for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. said today.
Mike Scott, local community relations manager for Southwestern Bell, said the company is replacing a defective 500-foot section of cable that can serve up to 1,500 customers.
"There has been no disruption in service," Scott said.
He said work on the cable began at noon Monday and is expected to be finished by the end of the week. Crews will be working on the project 24 hours a day.
The outside lane on the west side of the street will be blocked until the project is completed, he said. The cable runs north and south directly under that lane.
