Veteran major league infielder Steve Jeltz has flown to the Orioles' spring training camp at Sarasota, Fla., after signing a Triple-A contract with the Baltimore organization.

Jeltz, who hit only .155 games in 74 games with the Kansas City Royals last season, became a free agent over the winter.

The 31-year-old Kansas University product spent 10 years in the Philadelphia Phillies organization before being traded to the Royals on March 31, 1990, for right-handed pitcher Jose DeJesus.

Jeltz, who lives in Eudora, is expected to start the season with the Orioles' Triple-A farm club at Rochester, N.Y.
