Telephone service to 7,700 Southwestern Bell Telephone customers in Kansas has been upgraded from multi-party lines to single-line service as part of the TeleKansas network modernization plan, which began about a year ago.
Meanwhile, the company is working to upgrade another 3,400 of its party line customers, including those in Lawrence, in the next few months. To date, about 25 percent of the company's party lines in Kansas have been converted to single-line service.
The party line upgrades are part of the company's TeleKansas plan, which was approved by the Kansas Corporation Commission in February 1990.
"When combined with the proper central office equipment, single-party service will offer these customers access to a number of optional calling services, including call waiting, call forwarding, three-way calling and speed dialing," said Mike Scott, the company's local community relations manger.
