Kansas' women's basketball team has accepted a bid to the Women's National Invitational Tournament, March 21-23, in Amarillo, Texas.
The Jayhawks, 18-12 on the season, join Louisville, Notre Dame, Santa Clara, Alabama-Birmingham, Houston, Northern Illinois and Indiana in the eight-team field.
KU will face Louisville, 23-9, in a first-round game the 21st.
The tourney involves a round-robin format. Teams are guaranteed three games. Schools, however, make their own travel arrangements and must pay all costs.
"We talked about it," said KU assistant athletic director Richard Konzem. "We played well in Salina (KU took second at the Big Eight Tournament), we don't lose any players and we felt this experience would help our players for next year.
"The disappointing thing is the school bears all costs, but we believe the team is playing well and it'll be a great experience for them."
