A 31-year-old Lawrence man was arrested for aggravated battery and several other offenses after he allegedly attacked a 26-year-old Lawrence woman while armed with a martial arts weapon late Friday at the woman's mobile home in the 100 block of Michigan. Police reported that the man had become upset with the woman earlier in the evening, about 8:45 p.m. About two hours later, police said, he stuck her with a what police described as a martial arts weapon resembling a long, slender dagger. The woman was treated by ambulance workers but was not transported to the hospital. The man remained in jail today on the aggravated battery charge and charges of criminal damage to property, possessing a controlled substance, possessing drug paraphernalia, making terroristic threats and possessing a firearm with the serial number removed.
A 29-year-old Lawrence man was arrested for aggravated battery after he rammed his pickup truck into a car early today in the 400 block of Maine. A police report has not yet been filed, but preliminary information indicates that the man began chasing the occupants of the car when they apparently threw something at his truck. The man drove after the car from Centennial Park, Sixth and Rockledge, on Sixth Street to Maine. The chase ended in the front yard of a residence in the 400 block of Maine, where one of the vehicles struck a tree. The man then allegedly rammed the car with his pickup truck. He left the scene and was later pulled over by Kansas University police at 15th and Iowa. He remained in jail today.
