EL DORADO Vengeance already belongs to Lawrence's Maupintour Travellers, but they have the opportunity for more.
The Travellers avenged their only loss of the season Sunday, tripping Athletes in Action of Denver, 6-4, in the losers bracket semifinals of the NBC regional baseball tournament.
The win put them in tonight's championship against the Wichita Broncos, the team Maupintour played last year when it fell in the regional finals.
"We've got to beat them twice tonight to win, so our pitching is getting a little thin," Travellers coach Walt Houk said.
Also Sunday, the Travellers hammered Beatrice, Neb., 8-2. Mark Moore went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI against Beatrice. He had another homer against Athletes in Action.
In the first game, Mark Gile and David Soult each had two hits. David Meyer went the distance, running his pitching record to 6-0.
The second win did not come as easily. Chris Corn pitched seven innings, fanning nine, and left with one-run lead. But reliever Joel Bacon surrendered a home run in the top of the eighth.
In the bottom of the eighth, though, Darryl Monroe singled and Ron MacDonald hit a two-run homer.
Curtis Schmidt will start for the Travellers, 27-1, against the Broncos at 7:15 tonight. A Maupintour win would force a second and deciding game.
