Lawrence area youth baseball teams were 5-2 Saturday in their respective tournaments. Jock's Nitch, the Douglas County Amateur Baseball Assn.'s 12-year-old, 10-year-old and 9-year-old All-Stars, and a DCABA 11- to 12-year-olds' team were victorious. 13-14

Wichita Angels 11, VFW Cardinals 8: The Cardinals, the No. 1 seed in the NBC 13- to 14-year-olds' state tournament in Topeka, fell to the No. 3-seeded Angels. Billy Breshears hit a two-run home run, Blake Van Coevern hit two doubles and Ricci King added a double for the Cards. They'll face El Dorado today in a loser's bracket contest.

Jock's Nitch 12, Wichita Oilers 1: Tom Tatum hit a double and a home run with three RBI in support of pitcher Ben Whitaker, who struck out seven and allowed just one run in Jock's Nitch's run rule-shortened, first-round victory over the Oilers in the NBC state tournament in Topeka. J.D. Loudabarger had a double and three RBI for Jock's Nitch, who will face the Augusta Angels today at noon. 11-12

DCABA 12-year-old All-Stars 9, Wichita Flyers 5: Winning pitcher Aaron Flory helped his own cause with a 4-for-4 batting performance in the DCABA 12-year-old All-Stars' win at the state meet in Pratt. John Hill went 2-for-4 for DCABA. The All-Stars will play today at 4 p.m. against Russell or the Southcentral All-Stars.

11-12 DCABA 9, Topeka 5: Bruce Dickson struck out six in six innings for the victory in DCABA's win over Topeka in the Eudora tournament. Mark Pringle escaped from a bases-loaded jam in the seventh for the save. Defensively, Bryan Tackett made a crucial shoe-string catch in right, and Andrew Watkins crashed into the center-field fence to save a two-run homer. Offensively, Matt Boucher and Robbie Favreau each had two hits. DCABA's 11- to 12-year-olds will play DeSoto today at 12:30 in the finals of the winner's bracket.


DCABA 10-year-old All-Stars 15, Wichita Silver Bullets 7: Ryan Hadl earned the win in the DCABA team's win over Wichita in the 9- to 10-year olds' division of the state tournament in Wichita. The All-Stars continue state play today.

DCABA 9-year-old All Stars 9, Topeka Specials 5; Wellington All-Stars 15, DCABA All-Stars 11: Matt Wiedeman was DCABA's winning pitcher, and Gary Tryon earned the save, in the win over Topeka in the 9- to 10-year-olds' division of the state meet in Wichita. DCABA, knocked to the losers' bracket by Wellington, will continue play today.
