Absentee ballots are now available for the Feb. 26 primary election, Douglas County Clerk Patty Jaimes announced today.
The absentee ballots are for people who will be out of town on election day or are incapacitated and unable to vote at the polls. The ballots may be picked up from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the clerk's office in the county courthouse, 11th and Massachusetts streets.
An affidavit must be signed when the absentee ballots are picked up, Mrs. Jaimes said. The affidavit can be signed by someone other than the absentee voter, she said.
The deadline for picking up the ballots is noon Feb. 25 for people going out of town, and noon Feb. 26 for people who are incapacitated or sick. All ballots must be returned to the clerk's office by 7 p.m. Feb. 26 to be counted.
The primary election features 14 candidates for the Lawrence City Commission and nine candidates for the Lawrence school board.
