The chief of staff at Watkins Memorial Health Center at Kansas University has been ordered to report to a California Air Force base as part of Operation Desert Storm.
Charles Yockey, Watkins chief of staff and an Air Force reservist, will leave Friday for Travis Air Force Base in northern California to work as an internal and pulmonary medical specialist.
Wednesday will be his last day at Watkins.
Yockey said he was not sure how long he would be on active duty or if he will be transferred to another military center after arriving in California.
However, he said he probably would not be sent to Saudi Arabia.
"That's very unlikely because of my specialty," he said.
Yockey said services at Watkins should not be greatly diminished by his departure.
Lawrence Magee, a physician at Watkins, will act as chief of staff while Yockey is on active duty.
