— A memorial service for William M. Showalter, 76, Valley Falls, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa, with the Rev. David Irwin officiating. Mr. Showalter was cremated.

Mr. Showalter died Tuesday at a Topeka hospital.

He was born March 6, 1914, in Mound City, Mo. He had lived in the Dunavant community east of Valley Falls since 1960 and previously lived in Rockport, Mo. He was a farmer and worked 16 years for Farmland Industries in Lawrence until retiring in 1976.

Mr. Showalter served in the U.S. Army in North Africa and Italy during World War II. He was a member and an elder of the Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa.

He married Ruth E. Cuenin on Nov. 8, 1941, in Akron, Ohio. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Jane Little, Topeka, Marilou Gonzales, Omaha, Neb., and Lisa Bertels, Salinas, Calif.; a son, Gary Showalter, Everett, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa or the Salvation Army.

Hampton-Barrett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa is handling the arrangements.
