Law enforcement report
A 30-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man suffered a broken jaw during a fight at 2:50 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of Hardee's restaurant, 2030 W. 23rd, police reported today. Officers reported that the victim and a friend, a 23-year-old Overland Park man, stopped to get directions at the restaurant and got into an argument with some other men. The argument erupted into a fight. The victim, who was treated and released at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, told officers he did not want to press charges.
Burglars caused more than $500 damage to Lawrence High School after breaking in between 1:30 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. Saturday. Police said burglars apparently entered the building through a window and then went through several rooms and offices. School officials were unsure whether anything was taken, but estimated property damage at a minimum of $500. Police have no suspects.
Deputies this morning continued to investigate the death of Marni B. Wagner, 20, Rt. 1, whose body was found about 9 p.m. Friday at her home three-tenths of a mile west of County Road 13 on U.S. Highway 40. Deputies found no indication that Wagner committed suicide, and no foul play is suspected. Dr. Laurance Price, Douglas County coroner, said he performed an autopsy Saturday and ruled that the death was not violent. However, he could not further specify the cause of death.
Sharon Ghahate, 23, 640 W. 25th, was treated and released at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after an accident at 5:12 a.m. Saturday on 27th Street near the intersection of Missouri Street. Police reported that Ghahate was driving east on 27th at high speeds when she lost control of her car. The car veered off the road, struck a street sign, flipped onto its left side and came to rest on its top. No citations have been issued.
Wilson Jackman, 9, 917 E. 12th, was treated and released from LMH after a skateboarding accident at 1:55 p.m. Sunday at 10th and Vermont. Police reported that Wilson was riding a skateboard east on the sidewalk when the accident occurred. Officers said Wilson jumped off the skateboard when he saw a car coming south on Vermont. The car swerved, but hit the skateboard, which then hit Wilson near the right eye. The car was driven by Jennifer M. Moore, 22, Hays. No citations were issued.
