A local bodybuilder who owns a fitness club has been ordered to stand trial on a charge of possessing steroids with the intent to distribute them.
Trial was scheduled for April 22 during a preliminary hearing Thursday for the man, Richard G. "Junkyard" Sells, 38, the owner of Junkyard's Jym & Nautilus Center, 535 Gateway Dr.
Sells was arrested Jan. 3 and charged with a felony count of possessing a controlled substance with the intent to distribute it. The charges stem from a "reverse bust" in which Sells allegedly accepted anabolic steroids from an informant working for drug enforcement authorities. Authorities allege Sells planned to distribute the steroids he obtained from the informant.
Douglas County District Judge Ralph M. King Jr. scheduled the trial after hearing evidence from Ray Lundin, a special agent from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and Myron Heronema, the informant.
