A 22-year-old Lawrence man was arrested about 10:20 p.m. Friday on charges of possession of a controlled substance, driving a vehicle with a suspended license and no proof of insurance, police reported. Police Sgt. Ron Dalquest said the man was arrested after he was stopped in the 2000 block of Massachusetts Street. The man was being held without bond Saturday night in the Doulgas County Jail.
An 18-year-old Kansas University student from Lawrence reported she was raped about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house, 2000 Stewart. The woman was taken by private vehicle to Lawrence Memorial Hospital but refused treatment, Dalquest said. He said the woman had been at a fraternity party.
Police are searching for a man who allegedly assaulted a 24-year-old Lawrence man and stole his vehicle. According to a police report, the victim was struck and kicked several times in his head and face about 2 a.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of East 21st Terrace. The victim's 1981 Chevrolet was taken from the area by the suspect, who was known to the victim, Dalquest said. No arrests were made in connection with the incident. Dalquest said police on Saturday night were searching for the vehicle and the suspect.
