The American Medical Assn. has announced that Dr. Ralph R. Reed, Lawrence, has been named senior medical adviser of the AMA's Washington office.
Reed, who served as senior member of a group of general and sub-specialist internists in Lawrence for more than 20 years, has been working as a consultant in Kansas and Illinois with public and private entities in areas of health care and biotechnology since September 1989. He served as Principal Deputy to the Assistant Secretary for Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from January 1988 to April 1989.
He also served as assistant professor of medicine and held other offices at Kansas University School of Medicine.
"Dr. Reed will make a valuable contribution to the AMA's presence in the nation's capital," said James S. Todd, executive vice president of the AMA. "His extensive experience in private practice, education, and government will strengthen the AMA's ability to respond to the difficult questions concerning access to quality care for all Americans."
Reed received a bachelor of arts degree from KU in 1950, and his medical degree from the KU School of Medicine in 1953.
