About 40 local homeless people attended a turkey dinner Wednesday evening that was sponsored by organizers of the Homeless Campaign.
Dan Malmed, co-chair of the campaign, said the dinner, which was at First United Methodist Church, 946 N.H., went well.
Malmed said about 240 Kansas University students participated in the Homeless Campaign. Students slept on campus in cardboard boxes from 9 a.m. Monday to 4 p.m. Wednesday to illustrate the plight of the homeless. KU's head basketball coach Roy Williams also participated in the campaign.
Donations for the Salvation Army's Safe House were accepted during the campaign, but Malmed said campaign organizers have not yet tallied the donations.
