— Services for M.D. "Pug" Smith, 83, Leavenworth, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Barnett-Larkin-Brown Chapel in Leavenworth with the Rev. Kent Bennetts officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery in Leavenworth.

Mr. Smith died Tuesday at Cushing Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth.

He was born Dec. 29, 1907, in Chickasha, Okla., and lived in Odessa, Tex., before moving to Leavenworth 38 years ago.

He was a heavy-equipment operator for Leavenworth County, retiring in 1971. Earlier he co-owned the S&H; Sinclair Service Station in Leavenworth, and was a pipefitter at the Missouri Valley Shipyards in Leavenworth and at oil fields in Texas.

Mr. Smith was the organizer and fomer president of the Buffalo Bill Saddle Club in Leavenworth. He was a member and former priest of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Leavenworth.

He married Opal I. Simmons on May 20, 1929, in Vernon, Tex. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Max G., Lawrence, and W. Kent, Brookhaven, Miss.; a daughter, JoNell Thomas, Leavenworth; a brother, Dale, New Braunfels, Tex.; two sisters, Euphia Brian, Austin, Tex., and Travis Tucker, San Angelo, Tex.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests contributions to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in care of the funeral home, Sixth and Olive, Leavenworth 66048.

Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
