The Muscular Dystrophy Assn. has awarded $132,405 to a Kansas University assistant professor of biochemistry and biological sciences.
The grant given to Diana J. Bigelow, the faculty member, will go toward her study of regulation of calcium in muscle cells, a news release from the association said.
MDA recently awarded more than $12.5 million in grants and fellowships to scientists in the United States and abroad. The association has awarded a total of $19 million this year.
MDA is a national voluntary health agency focused on research in neuromuscular diseases. The news release said the association's programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributors.
