Zachary Smith, 18, 1403 Tenn., was charged Tuesday with a felony count of aggravated robbery in connection with a Nov. 24 incident at the Town and Country Market Store, 501 W. Ninth. Lawrence police allege that Smith, wearing a pair of pantyhose over his head, walked into the convenience store and demanded that the two clerks behind the counter give him money from the cash register. Smith reportedly displayed a small handgun during the robbery. No one was injured and police have not found a weapon. Bond is set at $15,000, and Smith remained in the Douglas County Jail this morning. A preliminary hearing has been set for next Wednesday.
Jose Peregrino, 27, Kansas City, Kan., was charged Tuesday with a felony count of theft. Douglas County sheriff's officers arrested Peregrino on Monday when they found out he was driving a car that had been reported stolen by a Kansas City, Mo., man. Bond was set at $7,500, and a preliminary hearing is set for Monday.
